I think it important that Kamala Harris, or, rather, the people behind Kamala Harris, be stopped from increasing their grip on America’s government, a grip already strong because of the power of the administrative state and the corporate media. Let me give some reasons.
Oppressors versus Oppressed. America has been subverted by the idea that the world is divided into the Oppressors and the Oppressed. All the troubles of the oppressed are due to the oppressors, and the oppressed may use any means necessary to stop the oppressors. It is the politics of resentment— of malice, more than selfishness. That’s why an old white man can like DEI: he hates the other old white men for their treatment of the oppressed and of himself. Diversity-Equity-Inclusion (DEI) is one example. “Cancelling” is another. Look to the Chinese Cultural Revolution of the 1960’s, a movement to destroy the oppressors present and past— because erasing history and culture is part of this. What has always been thought of as human— love of country, love of ancestors, the roles of the sexes, worship of God— must be destroyed. Free speech is Misinformation. Lying is a tactic, not a sin. When I say that the Left hates mankind, it is not hyperbole. They see man as a blank slate that must be erased and rewritten, not as a book written by God (or even evolution) and History. Read C.S. Lewis’s novel, That Hideous Strength, which conveys it better than any nonfiction book.1
Harris and Walz are anti-American and anti-human, Harris by upbringing and patrons if not belief (does she have beliefs?); Walz, sincerely. Trump, on the other hand, likes people. He doesn’t care whether you’re a fry-cook or a millionaire, black or white, Yale grad or community college. It’s no accident that he appeals more to Hispanic and Black voters than previous Republicans.
Israel. If you want Israel to survive, you vote for Trump. The Left wants Israel destroyed. I don’t think most of them want to kill the Israelis, but they think Israel should not exist as a nation and Jews have no right to live there. The Israelis are the oppressors, so anything Palestians do to them is okay, but any response by the Israelis is oppression. That’s why Oppressors versus Oppressed came as number 1 on my list. The example of how they view Israel tells us how they view America. If the Left refuses to criticize Hamas for the October 7 massacre, doesn’t that tell you something about what they think is justified in America? Black Lives Matter. Not White lives— they are enraged by people with t-shirts saying All Lives Matter.
Civil Liberties. In the Oppressors versus Oppressed framework, power matters, not morality. Civil liberties are just a facade used by oppressors. Thus we now have:
(a) Political prisoners (demonstrators who wandered into the Capitol on January 6 being charged with novel felonies as trying to shut down Congress);
(b) Use of the law to prosecute and to sue one’s political opponent (the silly legal charges against Trump— look at the actual allegations if you haven’t, and how connected the people involved);
(c) Government pressure on Internet platforms to suppress anti-government posts (Murthy v. Missouri);
(d) Proposals to pack the Supreme Court;
(e) The use of executive orders to change the law (arbitrary forgiveness of student loans)
(f) Suppression of news stories that would hurt government officials (the Hunter Biden laptop, the lab leak explanation for Covid);
(g) Refusal to investigate claims of 2020 election fraud.
(h) Weaponization of the law to go after political opponents generally (not an entirely new problem— the false prosecution of Senator Stevens, dismissed but too late, is what gave us Obamacare).
Just as the race-obsessed Left accuses Trump of racism, they accuse him of violating civil liberties— principally for bluster about putting Hillary Clinton in jail for her records violations and for trying to figure out a way to block certification of suspicious state votes in 2020 (in both cases, he gave up the idea).
The Biden Administration has actually done what Trump is accused of. The Justice Department and the FBI were politicized— even before Biden took office— and weaponized. The army is politicized, though not yet weaponized. Do not sleep through this.
Immigration. I want to live in America. America is not a geographic location, or a Constitution; it is a people, albeit one defined by culture rather than ethnicity. If you moved the 300 million people in America to Indonesia and replaced them with 300 million Indonesians, the two countries would have switched places. When we admit immigrants, we are diluting American culture, though in exchange for some benefit— e.g., someone who will pay lots of taxes, helping a political prisoner, letting an American’s foreign wife join him. Immigration is good, but only when we control who enters America, and only if we assimilate them. Illegal immigration is entirely unjustifiable. Why allow people in the country without even checking their passports, people who may be criminal, may hate America, or may not be able to support themselves? Why not make them take their turn in line like everyone else who wants to come?
The Left consider the dilution of American culture a good thing. Americans are Oppressors in their view. Thus, American culture must be diminished to make room for Oppressed culture. Indeed, American culture opposes the Oppressors/Oppressed dichotomy and values civil liberties, which is one reason it is an Oppressor culture. Most countries have more of an Us/Them mentality and don’t much value political rights. And, of course, on the selfish level, unskilled immigrants make cheap farm workers and maids.
I am sorry if this post has angered any of my liberal friends and family who read it. I suppose it will not help if I say that most of you are dupes, who do not really hate mankind or America but go along with the haters out of pity for their self-proclaimed victimization. That’s what I think, though. In the 1930’s there were plenty of good people in Britain who joined the Communist Party even though they would have been horrified to learn that Stalin really did kill his enemies and starve Ukraine like the rightwing press was saying. This election isn’t just about capital gains taxes and who pays for health care. The information we get from the media and the internet is already narrowing, along with our view of the world’s past, present, and future. If we have a President who is not part of the establishment government-internet-media-university machine, maybe we can reverse course.
Footnotes
On the Oppressor/Oppressed dichotomy, see “Don’t Blame Foucault”, Tablet, October 2024. This very readable article shows that the dichotomists are very different from the post-modernists in their worldview, even if they are the same in their politics and in viewing Power as the source of Morality. The postmodernists wanted to show that everything was complicated and no solutions would work; the dichotomists don’t want to show anything and believe that everything is simply us versus them and policy just needs to follow that dichotomy.
As I was reading about how young men like Trump and dislike Harris, I wondered whether this is because in general young men don't want to view themselves as victims, as oppressed. And they don't mind being labelled an oppressor-- it's rather flattering to be considered powerful.
